Senior Research Scientist (Cell Biology)

Signum Biosciences is seeking a senior PhD level scientist with drug discovery experience.  The individual will have proven experience in applying cellular and molecular biology to discovery research and drug discovery programs and will lead projects focused on the molecular targets underlying Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. Major responsibilities include establishing and validating cellular assays to assess various aspects of cell signaling. Identify and validate novel molecular targets and pathways. Direct the development of primary and secondary assays suitable to support the drug discovery process. Maintain an awareness of the scientific literature to identify potential drug target opportunities as well as technological advances.

Requirements:

PhD (2+ years of experience); extensive experience with cell-based assay development (RT-PCR, ELISA, siRNA,Western blotting), data analysis and assay automation; extensive experience with a wide variety of cell lines; demonstrate an ability to work in a team-oriented environment; effective leadership and management skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent organizational, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills; computer skills required: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, expertise in neurodegenerative diseases preferred. Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist - Dermal Inflammation

We are currently recruiting a Research Scientist – Inflammation who understands the principles involved in in vivo and in vitro experiments in the field of dermal inflammation. Demonstrates a high level of initiative in performing experiments, particularly when problems are encountered which require troubleshooting. Conducts several experiments, some complex, in parallel. Performs calculations and draws conclusions regarding progress and results of work. Quickly learns and accurately performs new procedures involving a range of technologies. Reads and understands the scientific and technical literature in order to bring new and improved procedures to the laboratory. Good organizational skills desired to accomplish both line and matrix responsibilities. Assist supervisor in training new personnel in laboratory procedures.

Requirements:

Research Scientist (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology)

Signum Biosciences is seeking a Research Scientist with drug discovery experience to work on development and characterization of our proprietary molecules that perturb the two most central global regulatory mechanisms in signaling: 1) G-protein-mediated signaling  and 2) Protein phosphorylation. 

The successful candidate will possess a strong hands-on background in molecular biology and/or biochemistry and be able to demonstrate technical proficiency. This position provides the opportunity to work and teach in the lab as well as provide scientific leadership in thinking about targets and pathways in a drug discovery context. This will require broad experience in multiple areas of biology as well as a proven track record of elucidating mechanisms of action and the consequences of signaling pathway inhibition.

This position requires the candidate to be highly motivated and experienced at working both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will be involved in established projects aimed at inhibiting signaling pathways as well as exploring new projects. The successful candidate, working within project teams, will be responsible for experimental design, execution and troubleshooting and the establishment and optimization of assays, both biochemical as well as cell based.   Title and compensation will be commensurate with experience. 

Requirements:
PhD degree plus 1-2 years post-doctoral experience; strong technical and analytical skills and ability to critically evaluate literature; extensive cellular and molecular biology experience; proficiency with protein biochemistry and cellular assays; ability to present work to a wide range of audiences; strong communication skills; strong problem-solving skills; team-oriented and flexible; experience with signaling pathways a plus.

Analytical Research Chemist

Signum Biosciences seeks an outstanding PhD level scientist to support small molecule drug development activities. The job responsibilities for this position include the development of novel characterization methods to identify, study and resolve issues related to small molecule drug substances and drug products. The selected candidate will be expected to investigate, develop, recommend, and characterize analytical methods for compounds isolated from natural extracts, starting materials, reference standards, impurities, intermediates, active ingredients, and drug products, using triple quadruple LC/MS and HPLC. Responsibilities also include providing analytical support for process chemistry and formulation development efforts, supporting laboratory compliance by writing SOPs and training procedures as necessary, performing stability testing of small-molecule drug candidates and products intended to be used in clinical and/or toxicology studies. The successful candidate will also participate in and contribute to project teams across a matrix organization.

Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences with 2+ years of hands-on experience in small molecule analytical development activities; experience in wet chemistry, separation/spectroscopic sciences and associated instrumentation (e.g. TLC, HPLC (-UV, -MS); excellent written and oral communication skills are required for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proven experience in conducting research in the analysis of organic pharmaceutical compounds and formulations is preferred. Animal Research Technician

Primary responsibilities of the Animal Research Technician include: generating data in the performance of studies; this work consists of animal care, handling and restraint of animals, sample collection, and ensuring accurate data collection and reporting, all within compliance with SOPs and Health and Safety regulations.  The individual may also be involved in small animal surgeries, dose response experiments and behavioral studies. Also, candidate must be able to tabulate and graph data and prepare technical reports for senior personnel.

 Requirements:

Research Technician (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology)

Signum Biosciences seeks a BS or MS level scientist. The successful applicant will work on a variety of projects using biochemical and molecular biology techniques to characterize the nature and role of key signaling pathways. The applicant will support the R&D group in performing technical, experimental and analytical work to assist in bringing R&D projects to commercialization. Participate in developing and improving test methodologies and obtains valid results in a safe and timely manner. Draw valid conclusions and recommends next steps in routine test situations. Contribute to designs of routine experiments and understand objectives of experimental designs. Prepare oral and written summaries, and communicate effectively with supervisor and team members. Coordinate effectively with analytical staff and product developers, to move projects forward rapidly.

Requirements:

BS or MS in biochemistry/molecular biology or equivalent; experience in general molecular biology and biochemical techniques (e.g. Western blots, SDS-PAGE, protein purification, mutagenesis, cloning/subcloning of genes from genomic/plasmid DNA); direct pharmaceutical experience preferred. Post-Doctorate-Airway Inflammation (Signum-UPenn Research Collaboration)

Signum Biosciences seeks a Post-Doctorate candidate to work in a team setting on a collaborative project between the laboratory of Dr. Angela Haczku at the University of Pennsylvania and Signum Biosciences. The successful candidate will be assessing primary cellular systems (e.g. immunocytes) and the physiological (lung function measurement) and pathological (histology, moleculer arrays, FACS, ELISA, Western blot, qPCR) aspects of murine models of airway inflammation. Ideally, the candidate should be familiar with human or murine immunology and/or disease indications of asthma and COPD. Of critical importance is the ability to overlay cellular mechanisms (e.g. signaling, lipid biosynthesis, cell activation/apoptosis) onto disease pathophysiology. With these abilities, it is anticipated that the candidate will be able to design and interpret experimental results. Upon successful completion of the Post-Doctoral collaborative project, candidate will be provided the opportunity to transition to a full-time Research Scientist position at Signum Biosciences.

Requirements:

Candidate must have a PhD in cell/molecular biology or pharmacology and a broad repertoire of molecular skills. Experience with animal models and the ability to characterize compounds in vivo and in vitro is essential.
