Maxwell Stock
President and Chief Operating Officer

Oversees day-to-day operations to insure close coordination between our business and research efforts. He majored in molecular biology at the University of Colorado, conducted research efforts at Synergen, and was involved with several startups before joining Professor Stock’s Princeton laboratory to help develop the technologies upon which Signum is built. A co-inventor on 6 Signum patents and a co-founder of the company, his laboratory experience and familiarity with our science have been critical in establishing the company’s R & D and product development efforts.

Alex Monteith
Vice President of Corporate Development

Alex leads corporate development for Signum including our partnering efforts. Prior to joining Signum, Alex led the business development activities at Alpharma, Inc. which eventually resulted in its acquisition by King Pharmaceuticals. Alex also held roles in Business Development at UCB, Inc., and had both Finance and Scientific roles at Merck & Co., Inc. He holds a degree in molecular biology and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon.

Michael Voronkov, PhD
Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry

Leads our small molecule effort. Dr. Voronkov received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Emory University and his BA in Chemical Engineering from St. Petersburg Institute of Chemical Technology (Russia). Before coming to Signum, he spent 3 years as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Florida and more recently spent 7 years at Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, serving as Senior Scientist for the final 3 years of his tenure.

Steven Braithwaite, PhD
Senior Vice President of Drug Discovery

Leads our R&D efforts in CNS. At his most recent position he was Head of the Cellular Neurodegeneration and Regeneration group and Principal Research Scientist at Wyeth. Steve's work has mainly focused on mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and stroke for development of therapeutics.  Previously he worked on mechanisms regulating receptor trafficking relevant to basic synaptic function and neuronal dysfunction at AGY Therapeutics, in postdoctoral work at Stanford University and PhD studies at the University of Bristol. Together his studies are elucidating fundamental mechanisms of disease, particularly through cell signaling events and receptor modulation, to lead to novel disease modifying therapeutics.

Eduardo Perez, PhD
Vice President of Dermatology R&D

Plays a lead role in the dermal R&D program and various other aspects of the company including human resources, business development and medical writing. Dr. Perez joined Signum as a postdoctoral scientist with support from an NJCST Technology fellowship. Prior to joining Signum, Eduardo received his PhD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he investigated the role of reversible carboxyl methylation of chemoreceptors in signal transduction pathways. He received his BA in Biology from Rutgers University.

Joel Gordon , PhD
Director of Skin Research

Leads our dermal research efforts. Joel received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and spent 18 years at Johnson & Johnson. He was a Senior Scientist on the team that led the development effort on retinol and is intimately familiar with product evaluation/development. He also led programs on the mechanisms of skin aging and various other projects involving therapeutic skin care biology.
