Dec 2009

Al Altomari currently Chairman at Agile Therapeutics, Inc. joins Signum’s Board of Directors.

Oct 2009

At the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (Chicago) in collaborative with Dr. Mouradian (UMDNJ), Dr. Jeffry Stock presented a poster demonstrating, "PP2A catazlyzes the the dephosphorylation of pSer129 alpha-synuclein." This poster recieved an F100 award. Click here to see the poster

Sept 2009

A review by Signum founder Dr. Jeffry Stock on the role of “Protein carboxyl methylation and the biochemistry of memory” will be the cover article in Biological Chemistry (Nov 2009). Recent results indicate that deficiencies in phosphatase methylation play an important role in the etiology of Alzheimer's disease. Signum is developing novel, disease-modifying AD therapeutics that target this methylation system.

Sept 2009

Signum Biosciences, Inc has been awarded a $1.6 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant by the National Institute of Allergy and Infection Diseases (NIAID) to continue the development of its topical Signal Transduction Modulator anti-inflammatory technology for the treatment of inflammatory skin disease.

In 2008, NIH/NIAID awarded Signum a SBIR Phase I grant to establish this novel class of antiinflammatories. SBIR Phase II grants enable SBIR Phase I grantees to further develop their technology and prepare it for commercialization. Signum will use the Phase II grant to fund preclinical development of Signum’s lead drug candidates for rosacea. Rosacea is a common, chronic cutaneous condition afflicting millions of individuals. FDA approved treatments have yielded mixed results, often leaving patients with significant levels of facial redness. Successful pharmaceutical development of STM anti-inflammatories will provide an important additional, and potentially better, therapeutic option for people suffering from rosacea redness. Jun 2009

Signum Biosciences is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Frank LaFerla to its scientific advisory board. Dr. LaFerla is a world leader in the molecular basis underlying age-related disorders of the brain and skeletal muscle with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. See Dr. LaFerla's Bio

May 2009

Dr. Granstein’s talk, “ATP enhances production of inflammatory factors by HMECs: Possible relevance to rosacea” was presented at the “Advances in rosacea research” a satellite symposium of the SID. See the abstract of Dr. Granstein's talk

Also at the 2009 SID in Montreal, Signum Biosciences Inc., presented two posters. Poster #126 titled, “Isoprenylcysteine (IPC) analogs: a novel class of NSAIDs show activity to different inflammatory endpoints including reduced erythema”, exhibit superior activity to current topical rosacea and anti-erythema agents. Our second poster (#127) titled, “Long-term topical treatment with anti-inflammatory AFC avoids the skin thinning and inhibition of wound healing associated with glucocorticoids”, indicates the excellent safety profile of our GPM technology platform.

April 2009

Signum Biosciences is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Planel to its scientific advisory board. Dr. Planel is a world leader in hypothermia-induced tau hyperphosphorylation and its relevance to cognitive impairment, dementia and neurodegeneration. See Dr. Planel's Bio

March 2009
Dr. Zoe Draelos presents Signum’s GPM Technology as a new class of topical anti-inflamatories at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) meeting in San Francisco

Dr. Jeffry Stock presents "Methylation memories: From E.coli to Alzheimer's" at the Mosbach Symposium (Mosbach, Germany) highlighting the important role of methylation from bacterial chemotaxis up to regulating PP2A, the major phosphatase in the human brain.

Feb 2009
Signum Biosciences and Rohto conclude licensing agreement for first Arazine product.

Dr. Zoe Draelos presents Signum’s GPM Technology in a talk titled “New Anti-inflammatory Molecules” at the 2009 South Beach Symposium in Miami.
